The Valley Full Of Dry Bones. This Is What It Means

October 16, 2020 by ddmionline

Believers in Christ Jesus. You are all welcome to another episode of our daily study of the Word of God. We thank God for His grace each new day as we present you with the rightly divided Word of God for your edification. It is our belief and prayer that you are blessed and edified as you read along.

In our today’s episode 567 of studying and understanding the Bible, we shall be looking into the book of Ezekiel Chapter 37 titled:

The Valley Full Of Dry Bones. This Is What It Means…

Recall that God had instructed Ezekiel to prophesy the rebirth of the people of Israel in the previous chapter 36. After that, God then took him and set him down in a valley full of dry bones.

Something caught my attention when I was examining the Hebrew word used for “valley” in Ezekiel 37:1 and the Hebrew word used for “plain” in Ezekiel Chapter 3:22 after he was appointed a watchman.

Guess what? The words had the same Hebrew meaning.

That is “valley” = “plain” = biq’âh /bi-kaw/

And it means a wide level between mountains.

This implies that Ezekiel might have been taken to the same location in those two references. The same way he felt the presence of God in 3:22 was the same way he felt the presence of God in 37:1 and the same Hebrew word was used for both locations.

So getting to that location in verse 1 of chapter 37, the place was already filled with dry bones.

What does this mean?

Literally speaking, Ezekiel was describing the current situation of the Israelites at that time.

It was a shameful thing in Israel to see dead bones in that manner in the land of Israel. Does it mean those corpses were not buried that they were left to decay in that valley?

God was simply revealing to Ezekiel the spiritual state of the Jews. They had become, beaten, defeated, downtrodden and eventually become hopeless to the point that God was even asking Ezekiel to answer whether those bones could still rise again.

Thank God Ezekiel gave the right answer – only God could tell. It would require a supernatural power to revive such situation. The reason is because, what Ezekiel saw was an impossible situation, but he did not want to admit it, which is why he pushed the responsibility back to God. Anyways, God already knew what He wanted to do. He was only asking Ezekiel a rhetorical question.

That’s why God instructed Ezekiel to prophesy (speak the Word) to the bones:

5 Tell them that I, the Sovereign Lord, am saying to them: I am going to put breath into you and bring you back to life. 6I will give you sinews and muscles and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you and bring you back to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

7 So I prophesied as I had been told. While I was speaking, I heard a rattling noise, and the bones began to join together. 8 While I watched, the bones were covered with sinews and muscles, and then with skin. But there was no breath in the bodies.

9 God said to me, “Mortal man, prophesy to the wind. Tell the wind that the Sovereign Lord commands it to come from every direction, to breathe into these dead bodies, and to bring them back to life.”

Ezekiel 37:5-9  Good News Translation

And it happened as prophesied.

Ezekiel only spoke the Word and there was a restoration of life into bones that were already dead and dry.

What a Good News

Spiritually speaking, this is the work of redemption.

This is the message of Salvation to humanity.

The Word of God is so powerful. In creation, it was the Word that God used. Genesis Chapter 1.

In redeeming man back to Himself (redemption), He used the same Word (Christ). John 1:1

Do you know the Word (Christ)?

If you already knew Him, then congratulation and start using the Word as an authority residing in you and whatever you decree on earth is stamped for you in heaven and vice versa.

And if you are yet to know Him, receive Him now as your Lord and Saviour by faith – confessing Jesus with your mouth as your and Saviour and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. Read Roman 10:9

To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.

Let us Pray:

  • In any area of your life that you may be experiencing any form of dryness: is it in your marriage, finance, business, academics, career etc, I declare that you will begin to feel the powerful presence of God in all these areas and let everything around you begin and continue to work together for you to fulfil God’s agenda on earth, in Jesus name.
  • I speak life into any dead relationship. I speak life into any dead womb, I speak life into any dead brain, I speak life into any dead cell, tissue, organ, system and the entire body. I declare come alive right now, in Jesus name.
