Why Did God Dislike Idolatry So Much? This Is The Answer

November 16, 2020 by ddmionline

Greetings to you all greatly beloved of God and welcome to another episode of our daily study of the Scriptures. We bless the name of the Lord God for the gift of life and for His benefits on us each new day. Praise be to God!

In our today’s episode 593, we shall be examining Hosea Chapter 10 titled:

Why Did God Dislike Idolatry So Much? This Is The Answer

What is idolatry?

Having checked the Merriam-Webster dictionary app on my mobile phone, I found these two definitions:

The worship of a physical object as a god and,

Immoderate attachment or devotion to something.

Why does God detest or dislike idol-worshipping?

Apostle Paul in his Epistle to the Corinthians says:

Yet there is for us only one God, the Father, who is the Creator of all things and for whom we live; and there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created and through whom we live. 1Cor 8:6

So, anything or anyone you adulate over and above this only true God has become an idol. It means you are trying to create another god for yourself and in the process trying to abrogate the supremacy or sovereignty of the only true God.

The most widespread type of idolatry in Bible periods, especially among the Jews was the worship of images that were thought to personify the various pagan gods or goddesses they intermingle with.

One pathetic thing Hosea said concerning these people was the fact that the more prosperous they were, the more altars they built for these gods. Hosea 10:1 and compare it with Hosea 8:11

Sadly for them, it was a bleak future they were creating for themselves because the king, his subjects and the images they were worshipping were all to be taken into captivity, which means they reaped what they sowed. Hosea 10:1-15

Hosea made this prophecy after the first invasion of Israel had taken place and they were warming up for the second invasion by the Assyrians, which would eventually claim the life of the king of Israel. Read Hosea 10:14-15. At that time, their chariots would not be able to save them neither will Egypt, whom they so much relied on be able to save them. Hosea 10:4 and 13.

Now, let’s look at some modern-day idolatry that people practice today.

Apart from those who still worship images and objects today, there are other methods through which people practice idolatry nowadays which are in the form of selfishness, greed for power and positions, pride, gluttony, a love for materialism and worldly lusts, and eventually they become rebellious against God.

Which category do you fall into?

Are you still s worshipper of the only true God, or you have added something else?

Repent now!

To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.

Let’s pray:

Every evil idol and altars set up against you and your family, is hereby dismantled, in Jesus name. Amen.

Every evil stronghold trying to frustrate your God-given purpose on earth, such evil strongholds are pulled down right now, in Jesus name.

You are soaring higher above reproach, obstacles and persecutions, in Jesus name.

I call you blessed now and always.
