Friendship With the World is Enmity With God

Good morning Saints in Christ Jesus.

STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 457

Isaiah Chapter 57

Isaiah 57:1-6,12-13 TPT
The godly perish, but no one seems to notice. The faithful ones are taken away, and no one understands. It is because of evil that they are preserved from calamity,

[2] and the godly ones enter into peace, resting serenely upon their death beds.

Note: The above two verses describe one of the major reasons good people die early. It’s simply to prevent them from impending evil and calamity.

I hope you all still remember the story of King Hezekiah when we were in Chapter 38. He was sick unto death. God actually wanted him to go at that time and he even had the grace to put his house in order.

He asked for more time and it was approved. Unfortunately, we see the calamities that befell him and his kingdom eventually, which God was trying to prevent him from in the beginning.

Please, read chapter 38 again for more details.

Now, let’s continue with verse 3.

[3] “But you-come here, you son of a sorceress! You’re nothing but an offspring of an adulteress and a prostitute.

Note: The adultery and prostitution mentioned here do not mean sexual, but idolatry.

James wrote about this in his Epistle.
James 4:4
[4]Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Both Isaiah and James were talking about friendship with idols – which translates to rejection of God, which is the highest form of adultery humanity can practice.

Isaiah continues…giving more details of the type of adultery and fornication he was talking about. The next verses will show you he wasn’t talking about sexual but idolatry…

That’s why when interpreting the Bible, it must be contextual looking at pretext and post texts in order to bring out the context.

[4] Who do you think you’re mocking? At whom do you sneer and stick out your tongue? Why, you’re a rebellious child, the offspring of liars!

[5] You burn with lust for other gods among the oak groves and under every green tree. You sacrifice your own children in the caves near the bed of a stream.

[6] From there you take smooth stones and worship them as idols. Yes, they become your idols! You bring them grain offerings and pour out wine as drink offerings. Do you think I will not seek vengeance for this?

After describing their sins, let’s look at the judgement he pronounced…

[12] I will denounce your presumed ‘righteousness’ and your ‘good works,’ so don’t trust in your idols to help you.

The above means that even if a person is doing good works and still rejects God and going after idols, Isaiah says his good work is unacceptable before God.

[13] Let’s see if your pantheon of idols can save you when you cry out! They will be blown away by the wind; merely a breath will carry them off! But whoever makes me a hiding place will possess the land and inherit my holy mountain.”

Making God a hiding place is by believing in Him and making Him your all in all. No prostitution of gods. Focus on Him alone.

To be continued…Praise God.

Our prayers for everyone on this platform: By the authority in the name of Jesus Christ,

👉As you focus on God and Him alone adding no alternatives, He will not let you down. As a matter of fact, He can’t let you down and you will fulfill all of God’s purpose for your life, in Jesus name.

👉Every help you need to execute that project that has been lingering, begin to receive it, in Jesus name.

👉I decree the entire creation of God begin to cooperate for your progress in all areas of your life, in Jesus name.
