Jeremiah Brought To Trial and Sentenced To Death, This Is Why

August 26, 2020 by ddmionline

Good day Beloved of God in Christ Jesus. You are all welcome to another new day. Glory to God for the gift of life.

In Jeremiah 26:24, God used Ahikam son of Shaphan to play a major role in rescuing Jeremiah from death, I declare even in the midst of any challenge, God will connect you with real men who will defend you and fight on your behalf, in Jesus name.

In our today’s episode 516 of studying and understanding the Bible, we shall be examining Jeremiah Chapter 26 titled:

Jeremiah Brought To Trial and Sentenced To Death, This Is Why

If we look at the content of Jeremiah Chapter 26 and that of Chapter 7, we will notice they contain the same prophetic content talking about Jerusalem temple turning to Shiloh if they refuse to stop their wicked activities. Jer 7:12

Remember what happened to Shiloh during the era of Prophet Eli and his sons who were perverting justice and Eli couldn’t do much to stop them.

The people of Israel then were all misbehaving and therefore the Philistines invaded the land, captured the Ark and killed Eli’s two sons. Upon hearing the news, Eli died falling from his chair. 1 Samuel chapter 4.

Historical records and facts showed that it was during this period that Shiloh was destroyed by the enemy.

Now in this Chapter, Jeremiah was seen casting the mind of the people of Judah back to the Shiloh event if they refuse to repent that the same way Shiloh was destroyed by the enemy, the temple in Jerusalem would also be destroyed by the Babylonians.

Upon hearing that prophecy, instead of them to cry to God in humility and get back on track with God forsaking all their evil deeds, guess what they did?

They seized the messenger and brought him for trial. In fact, it was an accelerated hearing carried out on him.

Let’s read some few verses 7 and 8, it’s worrisome to discover that those who were persecuting him for doing God’s work were his colleague in the ministry (priests and prophets) but unfortunately, they decided to choose the path of lies and manipulations. Jer 26:7-8.

They invited the leaders of Judah, called for accelerated hearing and moved the motion for Jeremiah to be killed? This is really worrisome. Read verses 10 and 11.

Then in verses 12, 13 & 14, Jeremiah explained again the reason for his message and confirmed that it was from God. So, they are free to either repent and come back to God or disobey again and have him killed. But if they kill him, they are simply compounding their problems.

The same free will given to Adam and Eve in Eden.

Lo and behold, something miraculous happened in verse 16.

Upon hearing Jeremiah defend himself, the Leaders of Judah were reasonable and refused to endorse the condemnation meted against him by the priests and prophets.

“Then the leaders and the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man spoke to us in the name of the LORD our God; he should not be put to death.” Jeremiah 26:16 GNT

Jeremiah 26:16 GNT

Some of the elders further explained to those present in the trial that similar prophecy was given by Prophet Micah during the reign of King Hezekiah.

King Hezekiah simply obeyed God and repented and the evil was averted. So, they advised that Jeremiah shouldn’t be put to death at all. Instead they should do what Hezekiah did and escape the doom day.

King Jehoiakim, the priests and prophets refused to listen but God used a man among the leaders of Judah called Ahikam son of Shaphan to rescue him. Verse 24.

Lessons learnt:
You may think you have no support for speaking the truth in the name of God, but rest assured that God will still use people to defend and rescue you.

We must be careful because not all those who call themselves Pastors or prophets are truly who they profess to be. Many of them are anti-God leading people astray. Be careful!

To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.

Let us pray:

No one on this platform reading this message will fall victim of false preachers, receive the grace to be discerning and careful, in Jesus name.

In any way the devil might have planned to frustrate or persecute you today, all the evil plans are cancelled already, in Jesus name.

Remember! You are an authority carrier. Every good thing you prophesy into your life begin to find physical expression and manipulations in your life in Jesus name.

Lines have fallen unto you in pleasant places and you have a good inheritance in Christ Jesus.
