STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 447
Isaiah Chapter 53
Again in this chapter, Isaiah presents us with Prophecies about the Messiah. Using metaphorical words, he describes how His Gospel would be rejected because of unbelief, how he would suffer and then His eventual death and resurrection.
Again, like we learnt yesterday, this is the foundation of the entire Christian Faith. This is the true Gospel.
Let’s read a few verses…
Isaiah 53:1 KJV
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
The arm of the Lord signifies Power, Strength and His Might, which was expressed in Christ the Messiah and revealed first to the Jews and then the Gentiles.
That’s what Apostle Paul says here…in Romans 1:16-17 TPT
I refuse to be ashamed of sharing the wonderful message of God’s liberating power unleashed in us through Christ! For I am thrilled to preach that everyone who believes is saved – the Jew first, and then people everywhere!
[17] This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness – a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith. This is what the Scripture means when it says: “We are right with God through life-giving faith!”
Unfortunately, the Jews rejected Him and the Gentiles accepted this wonderful Good News by faith.
So, Isaiah was already anticipating the rejection of God’s report by the Jews and accepted by the Gentiles in his prophecies. Another word for report as used by KJV transliteration is called “Revelation”
One of the major reasons the Jews didn’t resonate well with the message of the Messiah was because they thought He was going to come in physical Strength, Might and Power (they were picturing physical Arm of the Lord) to take power away from the Roman’s government and hand it over to them.
Even his disciples thought same way too, but failed to realise that He didn’t come to hand over physical power or government but spiritual government- The Kingdom of God.
Acts 1:6-8
[6]When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
[7]And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
[8]But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Whose report are you believing as you are reading this message – the report of God or the report of men?
