STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 455

Isaiah Chapter 56

From the first 8 verses, we can see how Prophet Isaiah describes who God’s people are. They are not just the Jews or Israelites alone. God’s people are those who have been saved and are operating in God’s righteousness and not in self righteousness.

Isaiah 56:1-2
[1]Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.

[2]Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

Surprisingly, Apostle Paul made reference to these Isaiah’s prophecies in one of his Epistles. Let’s read…

Romans 13:11-14
[11]And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

[12]The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

[13]Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

[14]But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Essentially, when you truly have Christ in you, you will definitely find it easy to do what is just and right.

Based on 56:2, we must bear in mind that as New Covenant believers, never forget that our Sabbath is Christ – The Messiah.

When you have Christ, you are already observing the Sabbath because He is our Rest (Heb 4).

We rest from our own labour, our own self righteousness and entered into His Sabbath Rest.

Please, let’s take ample time to read the whole Heb Chapter 4 to see what we are talking about here. You will find out the only thing that can prevent you from entering that Sabbath (Rest) is your unbelief.

That’s why he said…
Hebrews 4:6
[6]Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein (I.e His Rest), and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Now, let’s continue with Isaiah Chapter 56.

Isaiah 56:3-4
[3]Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.

[4]For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;

The above implies that even non-Jews were not left behind in the “Rest” that God has promised. It covers everyone that believes.

And also a eunuch was among. In those days, eunuchs were usually castrated so they wont be able to sleep with King’s wives or any female in the palace or any household they’re serving as eunuchs.

So, a man who has been castrated should never think that because he cannot have children, he can never be part of God’s people. It’s simply a figurative expression used by Isaiah.

This is what God says to such a man, “If you honor me by observing the Sabbath (receiving the message of Salvation), then eternal Salvation and security is definitely a sure thing for such man.

Verse 5 says such man’s name will be remembered longer than when he had sons and daughters. He would never be forgotten.

If you are reading in KJV, please pay attention to Isaiah’s idiomatic expressions in that passage…

Sabbath = Christ (Rest).
Zion = Place of Salvation. Family of Believers.

In my house and within my walls = this does not mean physical house or temple. This is synonymous to what Jesus taught his audience when He says in my Father’s house are many mansions…

This is a figurative expression that describes family of believers saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus.

Irrespective of your imperfections and disqualifications (just like the castrated eunuch), you will be welcome into the family of believers if you believe and receive Christ (Rest).

Thereafter, you will then be given a new nature – the nature of God.

You will all now realise that the entire book of Isaiah anchors on the Message of Salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

To be continued…Praise God.
